Mindset Matters Most
From the person who is just starting to understand their gifts and passions to the highest performing executive or creator, it’s all about mindset. It’s the lens with which you see your world.
When people have actionable steps without the mindset, it’s blind or it’s kind of like you’re following somebody else’s formula…
When you have the right mindset, yes, you can look to others and what they did, but you can actually be more creative and handpick and choose the things that you think apply to you, that are useful to you.
-Simon Sinek on Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead Podcast
The vast majority of writing out there for creators and leaders have to do with tactics, steps, and formulas. It’s the easiest to write about and people want to read it because it’s the easiest thing to do. It’s easier to follow someone’s formula, and not think about whether it’s the right thing for you at that moment.
But the mindset, the reasons behind why you do what you do, that is lever by which all your actions move. And it’s much harder to question your reasons, and to reexamine them. It feel like many steps backwards before you inch forward again.
But without the proper mindset, without the right lens to see the world, you are inevitably going to have to retrace your steps and start over.
After 200+ calls with clients, I realize what I love most is peeling back the layers and talking about their mindset. Whatever insight or ideas I can offer, that’s where I’m going. Asking the why.
Because if we can get that right, everything else follows.
