May I never worship at the altar of Workism.
It is the belief that work is not only necessary to economic production, but also the centerpiece of one’s identity and life’s purpose; and the belief that any policy to promote human welfare must always encourage more work. -Derek Thompson
We all worship something, and we’ve been encouraged to worship work. We’ve been told it holds the key to our purpose, our happiness, and our meaning.
Work is important, but when it’s the most important thing that’s when we get stuck. We expect too much from it. We weight it down with all of our dreams and needs until we realize it’s more fragile than we thought.
Work only works (as it were) when it’s an overflow from the rest of our lives.
